Social Media Campaigns, Some Talk But We’re Doing It!

By Stephen Turcotte | Published June 23rd, 2010

This is a blast! Our social media marketing team will be holding a press conference @ 12:30 under the arches at the New Hampshire State House today.  As part of the Balsams marketing team (BobDonPaul, Backbone Media and Read Generation), we will introduce The Five Finalists of the Balsams Grand Hotel Inn-Bedded Resorter Search to the traditional media live and in person.

Here they are …

After the paparazzi frenzy (we hope), the five finalists will be whisked up to the Balsams Hotel for an opportunity to experience the hotel first hand and make a presentation to the Hotel Management about why they should be chosen to live and report from the hotel for the summer (and get paid $2500). It should be interesting and fun, that’s for sure.

Here’s the itinerary for the next 24 hours…

  • Immediately following the press conference we will post the finalists names and links to their entries on The Balsams Blog (Views from the Notch), on the The Balsams website and link to these from the Balsams FaceBook Page.
  • After the press event,  we will drive to the hotel with the finalists, expecting to arrive around 4:00 and check in and get settled in our rooms.
  • At 5:00, we will conduct a tour of the property.
  • Dinner at 6:30
  • The finalists will be given the opportunity to explore the hotel on their own after dinner.
  • Thursday Morning, we will convene for breakfast at 8:00
  • We will meet in the Ballot Room at 9:30 where each finalist will make a presentation to the Resort Management Team as to why they would be the best candidate.
  • After the conclusion of all the candidate’s presentations, a lucky BALSAMS guest will be invited to cast the first vote along with the management team.    Voting will be open for everyone else for 5 to 7 days to vote online.
  • Candidates will be encourages to campaign for the position throughout the week.
  • After all participants have voted we will wrap it up and head back to the airport.

Voting for the public will not open until tomorrow (6/24) until after the first Ballot is cast in the Balsams Voting Room, but you can comment on the candidates pages today at the blog.  Over the next week, the five candidates will campaign hard to show why they have the personality and the social media chops to be the first Inn-Bedded Resorter.

How the finalists selection came together.

Well as you may know, we opend the search for the Inn-Bedded Resorter on June 1st.  Since the opening, we’ve had over 300 submissions.  We’ve been reviewing submissions as they have been coming in and the marketing team  (Bob Manley, Don Manley, Paul Gurney, Dave Donohough, Kent Rich, Paul Salvaggio and myself)  have  narrowed our candidates down to 10 then conducted 20 minute interviews on Monday with each of them. Following a long day of phone interviews, we picked our top 5 on Monday night and started contacting them and working on travel arrangements to get them to Concord, NH for the press conference and then the group’s trip up the The Balsams will be today. I can’t believe that we did all of this scheduling in the last 24-48 hours but that’s a testament to the BobDonPaul team including Dave Donohue (the lead on making all the PR happen). It’s a crazy window but we want to have the finalist picked and ready to go by July 1st so they can be up there for the big Balsams July 4th celebration.

I had better start driving up there or i’m going to miss the press conference. Let us know what you think.
